Tafsir Cinta dan Analisis Ayat Perang: Kritik Terhadap Pemahaman Radikal dalam Kinteks Jihad
Main Article Content
Abstract
Purpose – This study aims to critically examine the misinterpretation of Qur’anic war verses often used by radical
groups to justify violence in the name of religion. It seeks to reframe the concept of jihad through a tafsīr maudhū‘ī
(thematic exegesis) that integrates the paradigm of tafsīr cinta (love-based interpretation). The research underscores the
urgency of reconstructing Qur’anic hermeneutics that promote compassion, justice, and peace as the core values of
Islamic teaching.
Design/methodology/approach – This study employs a qualitative library-based method using thematic Qur’anic
interpretation. It analyses key verses such as QS. Al-Baqarah [2]:190 and QS. At-Taubah [9]:5 within their sociohistorical contexts. The analysis combines classical exegetical insights with contemporary hermeneutical approaches
emphasizing contextual understanding and moral universality. The tafsīr cinta framework is used as a counter-narrative
to literalist and violent interpretations.
Findings – The study finds that Qur’anic war verses were revealed in specific defensive contexts and cannot be
generalized as religious legitimations for aggression. Through the lens of tafsīr cinta, jihad is redefined as a moral and
spiritual struggle aimed at achieving peace and justice rather than violence or domination. This reinterpretation offers
a theological foundation for counter-radicalization efforts and encourages the integration of moderate and contextual
interpretations in religious education and da‘wah media.
Originality/value – The originality of this study lies in introducing tafsīr cinta as a hermeneutical alternative for reading
Qur’anic war verses. Unlike previous research focusing solely on political or juridical dimensions of jihad, this study
highlights the ethical-spiritual dimension rooted in divine love (rahmah). It contributes to contemporary Qur’anic
discourse by proposing a love-centered hermeneutic that aligns Islamic teachings with universal humanitarian
principles and peacebuilding initiatives.
