Peer Review Process
All manuscripts submitted to Exegesis: Journal of Tafsir and Qur’anic Studies undergo a rigorous and objective double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of published content.
1. Initial Screening
Upon submission, each manuscript is first evaluated by the Editorial Team to determine its suitability based on the journal’s focus and scope, adherence to formatting guidelines, and compliance with ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these basic criteria may be returned to the author without further review.
2. Double-Blind Peer Review
Eligible manuscripts are sent to two independent reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. The double-blind system ensures that:
-
Authors do not know the identity of the reviewers, and
-
Reviewers do not know the identity of the authors.
This process helps maintain objectivity and minimizes potential bias in the evaluation.
3. Review Criteria
Reviewers assess the manuscript based on the following aspects:
-
Originality and contribution to the field
-
Relevance to the journal’s scope
-
Theoretical and methodological rigor
-
Clarity of arguments and organization
-
Use of appropriate and up-to-date references
-
Adherence to academic writing standards
4. Review Outcomes
After evaluation, reviewers provide recommendations, which may be one of the following:
-
Accept without revisions
-
Accept with minor revisions
-
Revise and resubmit (major revisions required)
-
Reject
The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or Section Editor, taking into account the reviewers’ comments and the quality of the revised submission (if applicable).
5. Revision and Resubmission
Authors who are invited to revise their manuscripts must:
-
Submit a revised version within the given timeframe (usually 2–4 weeks)
-
Provide a response letter detailing how each reviewer’s comment has been addressed
The revised manuscript may be re-evaluated by the original reviewers before a final decision is made.
6. Editorial Decision
Once the peer review process is complete, the editorial team will issue one of the following final decisions:
-
Accepted for publication
-
Accepted with final minor edits
-
Declined
Authors will be notified of the decision via email, along with any reviewer comments and editorial notes.
7. Confidentiality
All manuscripts are handled with strict confidentiality. Information about a submitted manuscript is shared only with those directly involved in the editorial and review process.
