Author Guidelines
Exegesis: Journal of Tafsir and Qur’anic Studies
Thank you for your interest in submitting your manuscript to Exegesis: Journal of Tafsir and Qur’anic Studies. To ensure a smooth review and publication process, please carefully read and follow these guidelines.
1. General Requirements

All manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

The manuscript should be relevant to the focus and scope of the journal (see Focus and Scope).

Submissions are accepted in English or Bahasa Indonesia.
-
All manuscripts will undergo double-blind peer review.
-
There is no Article Processing Charge (APC) or submission fee.
2. Types of Submissions
-
Research Articles (5,000–8,000 words): Original research on topics related to tafsir and Qur’anic studies.
-
Review Articles (4,000–6,000 words): Analytical reviews of recent publications in the field.
-
Book Reviews (1,000–2,000 words): Reviews of recently published books relevant to the scope of the journal.
3. Manuscript Format
Please format your manuscript as follows:

Font: Times New Roman, size 12 pt
-
Spacing: 1.5 line spacing
-
Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides
-
File format: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)
-
Referencing style: Chicago Manual of Style (full note with bibliography)
4. Structure of the Manuscript
For Research Articles:

Title (concise and informative)
-
Abstract (150–200 words)
-
Include background, objectives, methods, and findings

Keywords (4–6 words)

Introduction
-
Literature Review (if applicable)
-
Methodology
-
Discussion and Analysis

Conclusion

References
Note: Articles in Bahasa Indonesia must also provide the title and abstract in English.
5. Citations and References

Use footnotes for citations, following the Chicago Manual of Style (17th edition, full-note system).

All cited works must be listed in the bibliography at the end of the article.

Use a consistent citation style throughout the manuscript.
Example of Footnote:
Fazlur Rahman, Major Themes of the Qur’an (Minneapolis: Bibliotheca Islamica, 1980), 35.
Example of Bibliography Entry:
Rahman, Fazlur. Major Themes of the Qur’an. Minneapolis: Bibliotheca Islamica, 1980.
6. Submission Process

Submit your manuscript via our online submission system https://journal.apipublishing.com/exegesis/about/submissions.

Authors must register and log in to make a submission.

All submissions must include:

Manuscript file (without author identity for peer review)
-
A separate file with author(s)’ bio, affiliation, ORCID ID, and contact details
-
A signed author declaration (template available on the journal website)
-
7. Peer Review Process
-
Each submission undergoes initial screening by the editorial team.
-
If deemed suitable, it is sent for double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers.
-
Authors will receive feedback and may be asked to revise the manuscript.
-
The editorial decision (accept, revise, or reject) will be communicated in approximately 4–8 weeks.
8. Ethical Considerations

Authors must adhere to ethical standards in research and publishing, as stated in the Publication Ethics section.
-
All manuscripts are subject to plagiarism screening using plagiarism detection tools.
-
Plagiarized submissions will be rejected and may be subject to further sanctions.
9. Copyright and Licensing
-
All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication.
