Nikah Beda Agama: Analisis Perbandingan dan Ulasan Kritis dalam Lintas Penafsiran
Main Article Content
Abstract
Purpose – This study aims to critically examine the reinterpretation of Qur’anic verses related to interfaith marriage,
particularly the issue of allowing Muslim women to marry non-Muslim men. The research revisits classical and
contemporary exegetical discourses to assess the validity of such permissive interpretations and to reaffirm the
normative stance of Islamic teachings on this matter.
Design/methodology/approach – Employing a qualitative, library-based research design, this study conducts a
comparative analysis between classical exegetes such as Al-Rāzī and Al-Qurṭubī, and contemporary commentators like
Sayyid Ṭanṭāwī al-Jawharī in Al-Wasīṭ. The analysis integrates both classical and modern hermeneutical frameworks to
contextualize Qur’anic guidance on interfaith marriage, supported by scholarly articles and related journal studies.
Findings – The study finds that contemporary interpretations allowing Muslim women to marry non-Muslim men are
erroneous and inconsistent with the Qur’an, Sunnah, and the consensus (ijmā‘) of Muslim scholars across generations.
It also reveals that modern tafsīr literature does not present an entirely new interpretation but rather reinforces the
coherence and relevance of classical exegesis, maintaining its applicability to contemporary Muslim social issues,
especially interfaith marriage.
Originality/value – The originality of this study lies in its critical engagement with both classical and contemporary
tafsīr traditions to address a modern ethical-legal question. By demonstrating the continuity between past and present
interpretations, the study contributes to Qur’anic hermeneutics that uphold the universality, consistency, and moral
clarity of Islamic law in guiding interfaith relations.
